I promised in my last post to share the fate of a pair of doors
( the only things to survive the His and Hers Bathroom reno)
( the only things to survive the His and Hers Bathroom reno)
from the original linen closet.
I love louvered doors. Just not in my bathroom because I'm a good southern girl who does my part to keep hairspray companies
in the black. Hairspray, shower steam and louvered
doors? -- a recipe for disaster in my cookbook so I saved
the doors for another day.

You can get more info on the Loveseat and TV tray here.
Then, how to use them?
I built this cabinet for my magazine storage. It's built from 1x10's so it's shallow enough to fit in the corner behind my recliner, just right for my magazines and a perfect way to recycle the doors.
I moved the chair to get a better picture. |
I distressed the new wood to match the old doors. I used leftover bathroom paint for the base color, dry brushed everything with leftover kitchen paint and sanded the edges a little.
Here's a look at the "during".
I thought I'd also give you a peek at a little trunk in the room my uncle and I built together. We built it to "fit" the space and for extra storage.
I'm all about extra storage!

Love that trunk!
ReplyDeleteWat a great idea Lindy. Fantastic...
ReplyDeleteYour trunk is fabulous and I love that leopard chair.
Hi Lindy,
ReplyDeleteYou did great with your doors and that cabinet. And, I so am with you about the hairspray. My kids think it's horrible. I am an 80's girl also from the south, so the hairspray is just a gimme.
Lindy! That's marvelous! Just love how you've put it together perfectly!

What a great use for those doors and love the trunk
ReplyDeleteI have two rows of louvered doors all across 2 walls and they drive me nuts---I hate cleaning them!! They can be nice to look at , however!
ReplyDeleteLooks great Lindy, and I think I need one of these cabinets!
ReplyDeleteYour talent is amazing! The magazine cabinet is a great idea and that trunk is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love it! Only a true magazine-a-holic would truly understand the need for a magazine cabinet!
ReplyDeleteLacy
C'mon ... are you kidding? You built that cabinet??? It's AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteWow! Great job on that cabinet and the side piece too! You did a wonderful job!!!! I love those old louvered doors and am just sick that I left a pair for $5.00 because my daughter didn't want to juggle the car around to fit them. I should have beat her- instead I have been beating myself up ever since. Hugs- Diana
ReplyDeleteI love that you have a cupboard devoted just to magazines! I know they can quickly take over a house. Your chest that you built with your uncle is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! there is never enough storage in a house and a space devoted to magazines...super!
ReplyDeleteYes, love this idea! Its a great shallow cabinet for a tight spot. Which i have in my laundry room! Now to get the thing built!

I love your magazine cabinet. I need one of those. Hmmm I see a Christmas break project for the carpenter (aka my son). He'll be so busy with the projects I have for him I doubt he'll be able to return. I also love that little trunk. You're amazing. You should move closer to me so you can motivate me to get things done. ;O) My best friend is awesome but she's a quilter and not a decorator which is great for completing quilts just not getting house projects done.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to tell you how much I loved your tile job of his and hers. Super duper great.
Have a great weekend, Lindy.
Hugs~ Amanda

Both pieces are very nice, but I love the little cabinet. Love the shutters and the color. Looks like that's a great place for all your magazines. Stupid me sold most of my older decorating magazines in a yard sale when I had this insane moment of wanting to get rid of all the clutten in the house. Oh well, some woman in the neighborhood bought them all for a quarter each, which made her very happy. I recently bought some shutters and have a specific project for them if I can get around to it. Hopefully my idea will look just as good as yours.
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great week!
can't believe you guys built that little cabinet! awesome!
ReplyDeleteYou are quite the furniture builder, I am very impressed. I LOVE that magazine holder with the louvered doors, just gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Cindy

ReplyDeleteBoth of your pieces are gorgeous, but I am especially smitten with the magazine cabinet. Love it!
ReplyDeleteWow! I keep stumbling upon your blog and every time I do, I'm more impressed. I finally hit the follow button (I can't imagine why I didn't in the first place)! You've done some lovely things and this magazine cabinet and side table are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love your new magazine storage, what a great way to recycle those doors! I need something like that for my ever-growing mag. collection!
ReplyDeleteTania
Brilliant! I love the size, and great colour and distressing. I need at least three of those great narrow cabinets. I can think of lots of spaces in our home that would look great with a tall slim piece like that. Now I need to find some louvered doors. Thanks for sharing.
