All that said, one of my very favorite things I have repurposed was a satellite dish. A big old honker of a satellite dish that was 10 feet in diameter. I built the cutest chicken coop (if a chicken coop can EVER be called cute) using the dish for the roof. Looks a little like a giant bird cage. I love it. Isn’t it just fab?
I made them this...
Then they made me these...
And I made Mr. Lindy some of this...
I love how this works. The girls seem pleased as well.

A what for a roof?!? I would have never guessed that! How cool are YOU!! This thing is just adorable. Now... you said you built it. You mean with your own two hands? Just curious.. and wondering if you could make me any more envious is all. :)

I am just smitten with your chickens! I want some in my back yard, but I don't the city will allow it.
ReplyDeleteLove this... so cool!! Wow... satellite dish! Who knew? Well..You did! :)
ReplyDeleteI also love that big rooster... that just looks perfect with the cage!
Saw your feature on Lettered Cottage... and saw this on Donna's SNS.
What a great idea for a chicken coop! I have chickens and we let them roam free. They go back in their coop at night, which is great, but we want to build them a coop to stay in all the time. We've lost a few to hungry critters and I don't want to lose anymore. Thanks for sharing this. Your flowers are beautiful too, btw! :o)
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness, this is a-dor-a-ble! Super cute! Makes me wish my HOA would let me have chickens so I could build them a cutie little chicken coop like yours. Your chicks are stylin' in this house! Side note...love the giant chicken/rooster sculpture next to it. Did you make that?
ReplyDeleteYour chicken coop is adorable. You must live in a warm climate. I'd love one of those in our yard, but the poor creatures would freeze to death in the winter!
ReplyDelete...and a beautiful chicken coop you made...cool, I have seen "gazebos" made from them...fancy name for a recycled project also!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this Lindy! Thanks for joining our yart Art on Thursdays meme!
ReplyDeleteVisit my new blog called Adventures of the Ibama Twins
Now that's a roof that should last a very long time and never leak! Great post!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant roof that satellite dish makes! Solid and brilliant protection for the chickens inside! The extra bonus is it looks so stylish! A very clever idea!
ReplyDeleteNow THAT'S recycling! What an outstanding use for those horrible, ancient sat dishes! Love your chicken sculpture serving as sentry outside the coop :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my, I would love to own chickens, how fun for you! I think my HOA would run me out of the neighborhood if I did get some! I love this upcycle!
ReplyDeleteDee Dee
How absolutely clever of you Lindy! I love it! Your adorable chickens have a great new home. Do you have a tutorial on the coop project? I love the rooster sculpture next to it. I wish I could have chickens!

Oh my WORD - makes me want to run out & find somebody's old satellite dish. Would you consider sharing more details of how you made the enclosure? LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteThat's just awesome. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteSo creative! I love it:)
ReplyDeleteYou should join my "Restyle Your World" linky party this Monday...

I'm lovin' your coop and I'm so envious of all of you that have chickens!
ReplyDeleteI'll be hosting a Barnyard Bash in Sept and hope you'll stop by, maybe bring the girls:@)
Wow! That's really clever. It even kinda look s like a flying saucer, lol...Christine
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! you brought back a flood of memories. When I was a child, my grandfather repurposed an old chick brooder roof for the roof of my tree house in a Queen Ann Cherry Tree. It was huge. I can still hear the rain drops on the metal roof.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a part of Seasonal Sundays.

LOVE the coop, especially the fact that you made it from repurposed items! I also think it's funny that both of the items I chose to comment on in the party were yours. If that's not a sign that I should follow you, I don't know what is.
ReplyDeleteAmazing, who else would have come up with this idea? It is too cute!
ReplyDeleteHi Lindy! LOVE your chicken coop so much! I pinned it to one of my boards on Pinterest. I found your blog this morning and I have to tell you how much I've enjoyed my visit here. I've been looking around for the last hour or so and I'm just scratching the surface. You inspire me. Thank you for sharing your creativity. I am your newest follower. I absolutely cannot wait to see me. Have a wonderful weekend! Candace
ReplyDeleteLindy, coming by from My Repurposed Life and am amazed with your chicken coop. What a wonderful idea! I have one of those dishes still in my front yard, although it's a mesh one, and I've been trying to find something to do with it. It won't be a chicken coop BUT it possible could be a gazebo cover....maybe!
ReplyDeleteYou are doing what my husband and I want/plan to do in the near future. And, of course I want chickens and fresh eggs. How ingenious to use a sat. dish as a basis for your coop.
ReplyDeleteHi Lindy! I follow your blog and you are on my list of My Favorite Blogs. I am now following Gail's blog, and am back again from over there to post a comment on one of your links that caught my interest, and how could a satellite dish/chicken coop NOT catch someone's interest?! Amazing!
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted a quaint little home with a yard big enough to have a micro farm, and I am very interested in having some chickens (and some bee hives, too!). Your girls are beautiful, and they look so proud of their satellite condo! If I were a chicken, I'd love to live there myself - the life of luxury in a beautiful setting. So sweet!
Best,
Kimberly
What a great idea! This would also make a great little house for my grandsons sandpile. It would keep the cats out of the sand and shade from the sun. I found you blog when I read your guest post at my repurposed life. I am now a follower!
ReplyDeleteI love the satelite dish for a roof. I haven't seen one of those in years! I love this!
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower sent over from Gail's place. ;-) I hope you visit my blog and follow back at http://my-2-cents.blogspot.com
