I can't believe I never took the first "before" picture of this bathroom. Somehow, it just
didn't speak to me and say "Hey, pull out that camera, girl, and get a load of this!".
It was pretty sad looking and didn't have one thing going for it except, maybe, it's size.
Not big, mind you, but bigger than you might expect for a house this age.
It had just enough room for two sinks.
It might have been a deal breaker (or marriage buster) if that had not been the case.
Some things just can't be overcome.

I wanted to save it but it wasn't cooperating. We gave in and gutted it -- ripping out
everything down to the studs and starting from scratch.
My favorite details....
His and Hers -- and he means business!
I put the mosaics together with bits and pieces from the border and tiny squares I cut from
left over granite that was used on the counter.
The vanity my uncle built for me with it's sweet little feet...
...and it's chunky knobs.
The mirror. I had our local glass shop cut all the pieces and we put them together, using antique looking buttons (I cut the shank off the back) in the four corners for a vintage look.
The light I found on ebay. I spray painted it silver to erase that 1970's Mediterranean look
and give it a little pop.
The blue ceiling.
The tilework.
The 1940's makeup ads I found on Ebay. They're simply sandwiched between two pieces of glass.
The fabric.
The details
Oh, yes he did!
I wanted so much to keep the "feel" of a 1940's bathroom while making it modern
enough to work for us.
Right outside the door, en route to the master bedroom, is one of my favorite spots. For additional storage space, I added a vintage sewing cabinet to the corner.
It's been so much fun living here!

ReplyDeleteLOOOOOOOVE your new bathroom- EVERYTHING is genius!!!! As all the other commenters have mentioned, I too, love the his and hers tile! That's definitely going to storm blogland- it'll be popping up everywhere!! I also especially LOVED the vintage make-up ads. I did the same thing with vintage laundry soap adds that I got off ebay. They are stored in my garage waiting for our house to EVER be built! Now I'm super excited to put them up- I think I might have to adopt your idea of mounting them between glass, it's perfect!! You always do amazing work, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this space!
ReplyDeleteJenny
Lindy, this bathroom is just amazingly beautiful. I love it! Gives me inspiration for my master bathroom - added to our house in the late 1960's. Oh yes, complete with avocado green sinks and toilet. Our house was built in 1940 also. We had our main bath redone 5 years ago. There's pictures in past posts. I love that your uncle built your vanity for you. Makes it more special and I adore the little corner vignette. I have my husband's great grandmother's sewing cabinet from the late 1880's and his grandmother's cabinet. Oh this bathroom is so inspiring. Well off to work, but thankfully it's Friday! Have an awesome weekend.
ReplyDeleteHugs~ Amanda
