Master Bedroom Redo

After four solid days of stitching up this brand new look for a client, I am "bug eyed and not so bushy tailed".  I'm pooped.  Worn out.  Beat.  I may never sew again...

Not really.  'Cuz, I've been sewing all my life.

My first sewing machine, a pink Sew Big, was a child sized machine that you cranked by hand.  That was the third grade.  By the fourth grade I had graduated to a "real" secondhand Kenmore.  By the sixth, I had given up on teaching my mom to sew (she'd have to wake me up in the middle of the night to thread the machine for her) and was making my own clothes.  Whenever I wasn't painting, I was sewing.  I was flying high...I was born to sew.

So when a client needed a master makeover and I needed a project for the CWTS finale, I jumped at the chance.

After shopping for fabric and accessories, it was time to get down to business.  My local quilt and fabric shop, the fabulous Lasting Creations, quilted the silk coverlet for me in a rush.  I can't thank them enough.  It's gorgeous -- pictures do not do it justice.

I wanted to cover the round table in the unexpected and I think I got my wish.  It's big, and stands up nicely to the canopy.

That's a down foot warmer at the foot of the bed.  Cool, huh?

Lovin' the little details...

So, after four looooooong days (and nights) I'm happy to say I'm pleased with the results and so is my client.

I've got more to do in this room so stay tuned...

Tray Transformation

You might not know by looking at it now but this was
a snoozer of a tray.

Not to be too harsh but just look at it.

Sure it had good bones.  It's big and it has a nice curvy frame, but exactly what is that bottom made out of?  Mystery material?  I don't like the unknown.

However, this was an easy fix.  I sprayed the bottom with two colors of green and a metallic gold covering the bottom randomly but completely.  I let this dry for a good long time.

Next, I found some dusty old silk fern fronds .  I would have tried the real thing if it wasn't winter and if I had brought my ferns in from the cold.

Using spray adhesive, I sprayed the front of each frond and let them sit a few minutes.  You'll want them to be tacky -- not sticky.

I placed the fronds on the tray bottom the way I wanted them and pressed them down.  Then, using black spray paint, I painted the entire tray being careful to use several light coats.

I removed the silk fern and...

I'd say this sleepy little tray is now wide awake!

Just when I needed the computer to download my pictures,
the guard-lings (Lexie and Lizza Jane)
were found protecting the laptop hubs...

Fairy Nursery Wall Clock

Fairy dust abounds in the nursery where this clock resides...

Made from scrap lumber, bead board, a dollar store picture frame and a vintage thrift store clock this nursery wall clock is 36" tall from crown to toes.

The door to the small cabinet "body" was made out of the picture frame and opens to accommodate baby's keepsakes.  The arms, legs and head were cut from a scrap of 1x10 pine and attached to the body with eye bolts so they dangle.  The cabinet back and whimsical wings were cut from a single piece of bead board left over from another project.

I cut all the parts with a jigsaw.

 Then assembled the tiny cabinet.

Meet Dewalt Brad Nailer -- the best $300 we ever spent!

I added textured paintable wallpaper around the outside.

This was my last "during" picture.  I had to stop taking pictures and get to work so there would be "after" pictures.

It's decorated in a quirky, vintage-y style with brightly colored scrapbook paper and paint, old book pages and a sweet reminder to
... "always kiss me goodnight".
