Dining Room Mural - Final Day

I wanted to paint a mural on my dining room walls.  I was a little nervous about this idea but, 
hey, what was the worst thing that could happen?  It's only paint. 

That's what I kept telling myself (and my husband).  

Well, hello, I could have to paint this whole room again!  Or (and I think I might like this possibility a little better) I might just have to learn to live with it!  That's what could happen! 

But now that it's done, I like it fine. Thank goodness...

I painted both this painting and the bowl of cherries on the other wall.

I can't tell you how casually this was painted.  I only used three colors of acrylic craft paint thinned with water.

I'm done.  I'm leaving that wingback chair (that obviously needs a slip) for now and moving on...

It's Time to Accessorize - Day 5

I've noticed fellow bloggers change things around in their homes a lot.  They move things here and there, add and take away, stage this and then that.  Holidays?  I'm not even sure they know when they're in the right house.  

I say this as a compliment, in admiration -- however dizzy it might make me. I think that was one of the things that drew me to blogging.  I want to learn to do this, too.

Until now, I subscribed to the "there's only one best way to do something" method of decorating....otherwise, why would it be called "best" at all?  I'd arrange things the best I could and there it would stay.  Forever, or until we moved.  

I'm almost always doing something but seldom ever changing anything.

Here in my dining room I'm trying out the new me.  It's time
to add some new ( or new to me) accessories.

I started with a $1 shell and a wooden candle stick I'd held on to but hadn't used in years.   The candle stick has had at least nine lives.  It's been stained light oak,
painted white, painted black,faux marblized (what was I thinking?, hello,  it's still wood...),
sponged, etc. -- you get the idea. 

And now, I think this is my favorite so far, it's been SHELLED.  

Oh, yeah.

I can't even impress you with how I did it cuz there was nothing to it.  

Glue it. Paint it. Glaze it.

"That's it", I say as I wipe the sweat from my brow.  

"Do I still get to call this a tutorial?"

I think I need a nap now. 

P.S.  My friend, Rosie (turned proofreader), says this is the ugliest thing she's ever seen.  Anyone out there need work?

Unique Monogram - Day 4

I love this monogram.  I found it by googling "W monogram pics".  It's amazing what google will get you....all you have to do is ask it.  

I've added this monogram to the backs of a pair of 

arm chairs.  I think it was a perfect solution 

for the plain-jane chair backs that always looked like they were missing something to me.  

 Here's how to do it:

• Look for a monogram that will work if cut into a stencil.  Print it in several sizes to see what fits your chairs best. 

• Tape the print to heavy duty poster board - shiny side up.

• Use an exacto knife to carefully cut out the monogram.  I cut on top of an old magazine to protect my counter.

• Center and stencil the monogram using a stencil brush and very little paint so that the paint doesn't seep under the edge of the stencil.

My chairs are wood so I used oil artist paint.  I think this might also work on fabric covered chairs if you used acrylic paint, don't you?

What's next? Any suggestions?
