Embellished Chandelier - Day 2

Day 2.  Dining room bump up.

Did I really say I was going to do this chandelier chain thing today?   Yes.
Did I realize I'd have to move a 2 ton table to do it?
No, but...

So the table's been moved and here is a before picture of the light.  That's a mirror on the ceiling -- around $20 from TJMaxx.
I had a local glass shop drill a
2" hole in the middle of it.
They were thrilled to be asked to do this.
They didn't exactly say so,
but I have a sense about these things...

Anyway, a tube of liquid nail and 4 honkin' big screws
later and she's there to stay.

Now for the chain.
I wanted something different and easy.  I really
couldn't imagine taking the light down in order to slip a
cover on it -- I don't mind the chain THAT much.

The fabric was left over from my "French Door Dress Up" post
a while back.  I slipped the cover around the chain vertically, shearing it at the top and bottom and using a little line of
fabric glue and paper clips to close it up.
In an emergency, it will have to be cut off.

Jennifer @ Southern Inspirations found some magnetic bling for chandeliers  you've just got to see!  Check it out here!

Tomorrow, I have a project inspired by Jan at
*Bobbypins Boardwalk*
I love everything about this pillow and Jan has done a great tutorial including the source of her adorable bird graphics.

You should go and check it out.  Jan's is one of my favorite blogs!

Dining Room Bump Up - Day 1

I like this room.
It's just fine (like the "I'm fine" I say to my husband
sometimes when "I'm not") but I think it needs a little tweaking.
For the next week or so I'm going to make this my project.

First, this curio cabinet.  My husband gave it to me last Christmas.  He'd have given me anything I wanted to house the
crystal that belonged to his grandmother.
I wanted an antique but I never found anything that would fit
so this is what I ended up with.  It's nice, it's just a little
"cookie cutter" for me.  Do I paint it? I already have
one painted piece in the room but, maybe.  I am tempted.
But, for now I'm going to try something a little less drastic
and line the inside with paper for starters.

Here's the before.....
Boring...
Here's the paper...
I think fabric would have worked as well.
And the after.....

I love the paper.  It's scrapbook paper I attached
with spray adhesive.  I've used this type of paper before (a different pattern) and I liked the look there as well.

I think it gives this new cabinet I built from pine a
vintage look and I like vintage...

*

Tomorrow, I think I'll tackle this bare chain on the chandelier.

Fall Leaf Tablecloth

Here is a quick and super easy fall sewing project.  Simply stitch silk leaves (removed from their stems) around the edge of a purchased table cloth.  How easy is that? And cute to boot!

I sewed the leaves  about 1/4" from the edge of the tablecloth, all pointing in the same direction
and slightly overlapping each leaf.

How to Clone a Rooster

You might have noticed this cocky old  rooster hanging here in my kitchen in an earlier post.  For me, it was love at first sight (sorry Mr. Lindy) but the original painting of this most eligible bachelor belonged to a friend of mine who refused to let him go.  She did, however, agree to lend him to me for, uh, cloning purposes....

The original painting was an odd 19"x31" so I had to build and gesso a canvas -- fun.

Drawing him out to scale...

About half way through I had to stop for a Diet Dr. Pepper break.  BTW, if I was getting paid to say that about the Dr. I would be a gazillionaire by now...

He's hot (like a pot pie) and he knows it!

Tiny Bud Vases

These tiny little itty bitty vases are not vases at all.
They're frauds.  Posers.  Impostors.
But they're my frauds -- and I love 'em.

You guessed (because you're brilliant) that they are
bottle stoppers

I was able to collect all 5 in just 2 trips to 1 Goodwill!
And all for less than a cup of coffee at
Starbucks....this is math you can love.
