Tiny Bud Vases

These tiny little itty bitty vases are not vases at all.  

They're frauds.  Posers.  Impostors. 

But they're my frauds -- and I love 'em. 

You guessed (because you're brilliant) that they are 

bottle stoppers! 

I was able to collect all 5 in just 2 trips to 1 Goodwill!  

And all for less than a cup of coffee at 

Starbucks....this is math you can love.

Pretty Little Pillow

I filed this idea for a pillow away in my head a while ago.  

Oh man, if you're an idea – you DO NOT want 

to be filed in my head.  All sorts of things 

could happen to you there.  

You could languish, forever, waiting to be used.  

You could fade with time, or get lost completely...

I know it happens to all of us but it happens to me a lot!

But finally, years after I first had this idea I remembered it,
  I'm done.  Did it today.  

And I must say I'm pleased. 
 

Here’s how it’s done...

• Remove the flowers from the stems of silk flowers.  I think just about any kind will work.  I used two sizes – the main petals and a smaller one that helps cover the hole in the larger one and adds some dimension to the flowers.

• Cut 2 pieces of fabric 12”x18” for the front and back of the pillow.
  
• Mark where you want to stitch your petals.  I press my lines onto the fabric with an iron or you can use a marker.

• Pin and stitch petals in place. You could use fabric glue instead.  I wanted to be able to see my stitching on this one.

• Pinning right sides together, stitch around the outside edge of pillow 1/2” from edge leaving an opening to stuff pillow.
• Clip corners and turn pillow.
  
• Stuff pillow and stitch opening closed.

  (in lieu of new upholstery) in the  living room

    -- it's time for a change. I'll be digging through some old fabric I have to see what else I can come up with.

Faux Pressed Tin House Number Tutorial

What do your house numbers say?  

"Are you positive or are you negative?"

"Has anyone seen my glasses?"

 

"Hey. Buddy. Over here."

I think (I hope) mine say, "Welcome, come right in".  

(Well, maybe not really cuz that could be a little creepy, but--

you know what I mean...)

Looks like old pressed tin? Guess again.  

These house numbers are made from 

Fasade Decorative Thermoplastic Panels.   

Seriously, folks, that's what they call it.  There's got to be some poor marketing guy out of a job over that.  But, in other, better words it's faux pressed tin.

Panels are 18"x24" and come in several colors and patterns for $18.95 at Home Depot.

Here's how I did it...

1. Find a type style you like on your computer and print the house numbers the size you need.  Thicker styles are better and it might also help to print them in bold. I think mine were enlarged about 600x.  You have to play around with this a little to get the right size.
2. Cut the numbers out and place them upside down on the backside of the sheet of faux tin.  Adjust the number so you'll get the best pattern on the finished piece.
3. Trace around the pattern with a marker (that's why you'll want to do it on the back) and cut out the number.

I attached my numbers over my door with liquid nail and taped them in place until they dried making sure they were level and evenly spaced . Adjust this step according to the surface you''ll be attaching your house numbers to.

I see a monogram in my mailbox's future...
